Sean Lacey

Wing Commander (WGCDR) Sean Lacey is an officer in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF),
currently serving within the Combat Support Group (CSG). With an ongoing career spanning 39
years, WGCDR Lacey has been at the forefront of integrating innovative technologies to enhance
operational efficiency and personnel safety.

WGCDR Lacey's RAAF career began in 1985, enlisting as an Aircraft Maintenance Technician and
working with all RAAF fast jet platforms of the time. Commissioning as an Officer in 2000. Early
career experiences as an aircraft technician, including personal back injury due to inadequate handling
protocols have fuelled his commitment to improving workplace safety and performance by being a
leader and manager at the forefront to enable change and innovation to bring about best practice
personnel safety and organizational effectiveness.

In recent years, WGCDR Lacey has played a pivotal role in the implementation of the HeroWear
Apex2 exoskeleton suit within the RAAF. This cutting-edge technology assists personnel in heavy
lifting tasks in aircraft cargo and ground operations within CSG.

WGCDR Lacey's leadership and advocacy for the Apex2 exoskeleton have enhanced CSG's operational capabilities and set a benchmark for safety and innovation in the RAAF. His
vision is to see the widespread adoption of such technologies across the RAAF, ensuring that
personnel are equipped with the best tools to perform their duties safely and efficiently.
